How South African VAT works

The standard VAT rate in South Africa is 15%. If your price excludes VAT, multiply it by 1.15 to get the inclusive total. If it already includes VAT, divide it by 1.15 to find the amount before VAT.

Add VAT

R1,000 excluding VAT becomes R1,150. The VAT portion is R150.

Remove VAT

R1,150 including VAT contains R150 VAT and R1,000 before VAT.

For invoices

Show the subtotal, VAT amount and final total separately so your customer can check the calculation.
